It's another holiday weekend and all the temptations that go with Memorial Day feasts. Here are some tips to allow you to have fun but still eat healthy:

Portions rule! You can use the 80% rule and combine it with the portions rule and come out with a good health score.

Eating healthy 80% of the time usually adds up to a successful diet. Trying to be perfect is generally a set up for failure.

Using good portions and not going for "seconds" is the best plan.

A portion is generally a fist size. Nuts and seeds are the base of your palm not a hand full.

With that information you should be able to face any holiday meal with confidence.

Happy Holiday!

Lynn Hahn www.getrealfit.org

I've been in the industry for a few decades so I've seen "truths" about fitness come and go.

Getting several opinions, trying them out and finding what works for you is smart.

I hope that I'm able to contribute and help others choose to get healthy.

I have several ways of communicating with the public.

I have a blog and a podcast as well as a site called real womens fitness tips where I share information and link to other sites that have helpful information as well. All of them can be accessed on my website www.getrealfit.org

It takes a community to really influence people to take that big first step toward health.
Yesterday I did my first reformer one-on-one Pilates
session. Although I was skeptical of it

Pilates is a good method of progressing through ranges of motion. As MAT specialist, I hate forcing body into
ranges of motion (ie passive stretching).
However, the Pilates instructor was very careful at PROGRESSING. I have explained to her that I will only do
things that my body is comfortable with (I am not very flexible). She agreed.
As I performed each exercise I moved farther and farther into each range
of motion, and as a result I felt looser after the session. This was exactly what I was looking forward

I often used the term integrative training when I train
several muscle group or several movement chains. The term
"integrative" is far more accurate than the more popular term
"core". Many trainers think that when they make their client
stand on bosu ball, their client are training their core. However the muscles group that is being train
is the one that is the weakest in that movement/position chain. Therefore, two clients performing the same exercise
may feel the different areas being worked.
The term “Integrative” accounts for all muscles groups and movement
chains involved in exercises. In addition,
the term “integrative” suggest that you are training a system versus a unit. So, I place someone on a bosu and make them squat,
and they ask me what is this working? My
reply would be, ability to squat on the bosu.
More specifically we are integrating all muscle groups that allow one to
squat on an unstable platform and making that movement stronger.
